TUSCALOOSA MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS TO BE FASTER AND MORE ACCURATE
By WVUA 23 Student Reporter Madison MacLean
Tuscaloosa municipal elections are today, and election officials hope new technology will make casting your vote a lot easier.
Changes to the voting process will hopefully make this year’s municipal elections the fastest and most accurate ones yet.
Alabama instituted a voter ID law in 2014, and some minority citizens are concerned this law could be a stumbling block for some.
“We want to make it really easy to vote and really hard to cheat in Alabama and the best way to do that is to ensure that every eligible U.S. citizen that’s a resident of our state is registered and has a voter ID,” said Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill.
Also, new easy-to-use iPad tablets will streamline the voting check-in process, meaning less time standing in line to cast your vote.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
