Tuscaloosa Mayor’s Cup returns April 30

Mayors Cup

After a two-year hiatius, the Tuscaloosa Mayor’s Cup 5k for Pre-K returns April 30 in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Since the event began in 2007, it’s raised more than $325,000 in support of the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative.

“I’d like to thank everyone for your patience and support as we made the tough decision to cancel the 2020 and 2021 Mayor’s Cups amid the pandemic,” Mayor Walt Maddox said in a statement. “I’m excited to reconvene this year as a community, united in health and wellness, while supporting our children.”

The 5K is open to all ages and participants are welcome to run or walk. For runners, the Mayor’s Cup 5K is a Grand Prix event registered with the Tuscaloosa Track Club. Timing chips attached to race bibs will be used to determine race results, and awards will be given.

Registration for the race is $15 through the end of February, $20 throughout March and $25 from April 1 to the day of the race on April 30.
