Tuscaloosa man dies in Saturday Marengo County wreck

A man from Tuscaloosa has died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Alabama Patrol Division said.

The wreck happened around 1 p.m. on U.S. Highway 80 near the 27-mile marker, about 10 miles east of Demopolis is Marengo County.

Richard E. Powell, 70, was fatally injured when the pickup he was driving ran off the road and struck a utility pole and a tree before catching fire. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the wreck.
