TUSCALOOSA MAN DIES AFTER BEING PEPPER SPRAYED BY POLICE

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WVUA 23) – The death of a Tuscaloosa man who was in police custody is currently under investigation.

Anthony Dewayne Ware resisted arrest after running into the woods when he saw police officers pull up. Officers responded to an anonymous call about Ware, who was wanted on charges for attempting to elude police. Ware ran into nearby woods where police chased after him. Police pepper sprayed Ware, who continued struggling but was eventually handcuffed. While they were taking him out of the woods, he had trouble breathing and collapsed. CPR was administered and medical help was called immediately by police.

Officials say, there is police video from the incident Friday night and that video will be reviewed by Tuscaloosa Homicide before it’s released to the public..
