The Crimson Tide is away this weekend, but fans can still enjoy the game day atmosphere in downtown Tuscaloosa.

The city of Tuscaloosa is hosting an Alabama vs. South Carolina watch party at Government Plaza Saturday.

“It’s a Live at the Plaza spin-off if you will,” said Michelle Smart, the Special Events Manager for the City of Tuscaloosa. ”Obviously we do Live at the Plaza, our concert series every summer, and one of the biggest things we get back from the community is we wish it was longer. We decided this year we would try out a football game watch party, and we’re excited to host that.”

Officials hope the watch party, like Live at the Plaza, will bring more attention to this part of the city.

“I’m excited because it gives Tuscaloosa residents and Tuscaloosa community members an opportunity to come and enjoy downtown and an away football game,” Smart said. “Obviously downtown, the Strip, a lot of those areas get a lot of attention and excitement on game day, and so we’re excited to revitalize that energy that we see on home games for an away game.”

Fans are encouraged to bring coolers filled with drinks to the plaza, but alcohol purchased outside the entertainment district is prohibited. Tents are also prohibited.

The event begins before kick-off with screenings of pre-game shows.
