TUSCALOOSA FIRE AND RESCUE TRAINS FOR HAZMAT RESPONSE
Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue will be going through refresher training courses for hazmat responses this month.
Every responder in the city is an operations level hazmat responder.
Not only is the training crucial for the responders to know the process of containment, but it is also to prevent the public from coming in contact with a dangerous substance.
“The de-con process is not very hard, but it is very tedious,” Fire and Rescue Lt. Eric O’Neal said. “You got to do it step by step, making sure you don’t miss anything, making sure that for the first responders the suits are clean enough to get them out of the suit. And for victims that have been exposed that they’re clean enough to go to the hospital without contaminating whoever they come into contact with.”
Training will continue throughout the month on the 17th, 18th, and 21st from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Kauloosa Avenue.
