TUSCALOOSA COUNTY WRECKS: 3 DEAD IN 3 SEPARATE CRASHES OVER 48-HOUR PERIOD

Three people are dead in Tuscaloosa County after three separate wrecks within a 48-hour period.

The first wreck happened at 11:40 a.m. Monday on Lock 17 Road, about 10 miles north of Brookwood city limits.

Gregory Vaughn Oswalt, 56, was seriously injured when his vehicle left the road and struck two trees. Oswalt was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

The second wreck happened at 9:40 p.m. Monday on Alabama Highway 171, about 5 miles north of Northport.

Jacob Dale Montgomery, 22, was killed when the pickup he was driving left the road and struck a ditch. Mongtomery, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alabama State Troopers said although the crash is under investigation, speed is believed to be a factor.

The third death happened at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 59 near the 92-mile marker, about 2 miles north of Tuscaloosa city limits when a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

Reginald Flint Gast, 55, of Birmingham was killed when he was hit by a vehicle. Gas was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the cause of these wrecks.
