The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office air unit and patrol division could soon have a new home in Shelton State Community College’s backyard.
The Tuscaloosa County commission on Wednesday agreed to provide construction services on a a 7.6 acre portion of Shelton State’s C.A. Fredd Campus, 3401 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
In exchange, Tuscaloosa Commissioner Mark Nelson says they will relocate their facility to a new location.
“We found some property on 35th Street that’s adjacent to our engineering department and the animal shelter. It belonged to the community college system, so with the help of Bill Pool, we reached out to them. It has taken us about eight or nine months, but we worked out an agreement where we are going to do some work on their behalf on the remaining property they have. In exchange, they are going to give us the property there, so we can relocate this facility there,” Nelson said.
Nelson also believes the new location will greatly influence the Sheriff’s Department, since it would have a central location near the C.A. Fredd Campus and other schools in the area.
