Tuscaloosa County Jail inmate dies in hospital after complaining of medical issues
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating after an inmate at the Tuscaloosa County Jail died in custody. That’s standard procedure any time an inmate dies.
Investigators said the inmate was complaining of medical issues including shortness of breath. The inmate was conscious and alert at the time, and left the jail under his own power.
After arriving at DCH Regional Medical Center, the inmate’s health went into decline. Despite emergency treatment, he died a short time later.
The investigation is being conducted by officers and supervisors who are not affiliated with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, as is standard procedure.
The inmate’s family has been notified, but their name has not yet been released.
