TUSCALOOSA COUNTY COMMISSION APPROVES SCHOOL SALES TAX HOLIDAY

The Tuscaloosa County Commission today gave the OK on nixing the county’s sales tax for the state’s annual back-to-school tax holiday.

County Administrator Melvin Vines said the county’s portion of Tuscaloosa County’s 9-cent sales tax will be exempt that weekend, along with the state’s portion. Tuscaloosa and Northport are also exempting their sales tax collection during the holiday.

This year, the Alabama Department of Revenue has designated Aug. 5 through Aug. 7 as the annual back-to-school tax holiday.

The holiday means shoppers picking up items such as school supplies, clothes and computers do not pay sales tax those days. Want a list of items you can get tax-free during the holiday? Find it here.
