TUSCALOOSA — Tuscaloosa residents may soon begin to hear more airplanes buzzing above their heads. For the first time in 20 years, commercial passengers may fly out of Tuscaloosa Regional Airport.
The Tuscaloosa City Council approved a contract with Sixel Consulting Group. It is hoped that the group will help attract a commercial airline to Tuscaloosa’s airport. The group will also advise on upgrades to the airport’s existing facilities to accommodate a major airline.
Consultants from Sixel will meet with representatives from American Airlines, SkyWest Airlines, ViaAir and Southern Airways Express and hope to reach an agreement with one of those airlines.
