Tuscaloosa City Schools working on filling 100-plus positions

Tuscaloosa City Schools has more than 100 job openings for the 2023-24 school year. There are 60 openings for teachers, 17 openings for bus drivers, and other option positions include athletic coaches, aides, personnel and support staff.
TCS Executive Director of Human Resources and Operations Deron Cameron said filling a plethora of jobs in the summer is something that happens every year.
“Our principals do a fantastic job of getting great candidates in and making their recommendations,” Cameron said. “Our staff and HR does a tremendous job of processing and getting the recommendations for board approval.”
Bus drivers start out at $22.87 per hour alongside a $2,000 signing bonus. Benefits for all positions include health insurance, state retirement, professional development opportunities, paid holidays and time off at Thanksgiving, spring break and two weeks in December.
