Tuscaloosa City Schools have released their first COVID-19 numbers for the fall 2021 semester so far. The report states that as of Thursday, 132 students and 11 employees are being quarantined as a result of positive tests and another 21 individuals are being quarantined after exposure.
With 10,843 students and 1,439 employees within the city school system, positive cases make up about 1% of the school population.
Masks are required in city schools and this policy will remain in effect until at least Sept. 10. Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Mike Daria said mask reminders are typical for elementary students, but so far everyone has been pretty compliant with the policy.
