Tuscaloosa City Schools is hosting its fourth annual Can-struction event, which begins today and continues through March 3.

Can-struction is an international nonprofit effort hosting competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing large structures made entirely out of canned foods. This year’s junior event will include can sculptures from 12 school teams in Tuscaloosa.

The city school system intends to promote hands-on learning, while targeting real world problems such as hunger. The finished exhibitions can be found at The Arts Council Gallery at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center throughout this week.

After the exhibition, the canned foods will be donated to the West Alabama Food Bank in hopes of beating their record of 12,000 cans of food donated last year.
