Tuscaloosa City Schools held a panel discussion Tuesday night to talk about the possibility of students returning sooner than intended.

The panel gave insight into the Tuscaloosa City Schools board members’ plans to allow students to return before the approved nine weeks.

Although several students are opting for virtual learning all year long, other students want to return to campus.

TCS Superintendent Mike Daria said he is committed to getting the students back on campus in the safest way possible.

“We did not want to return to campus in a way that we could not ensure the safety for our students and for our educators and be in a position where we then have to shut down classrooms or quarantine a whole bunch of students,” Daria said. “So our thinking is to go through this in a methodical way and faze students onto campus so that we can really implement those precautions so that when we get back to school we can stay in school.”

Daria said the board may further discuss the reopening plan during next Tuesday’s board meeting.
