TUSCALOOSA CITY COUNCIL TAKING ACTION AFTER CONTROVERSIAL DISPLAY

During Tuesday’s Tuscaloosa City Council meeting, NAACP President Jerry Carter addressed the council after a controversial display was seen hanging at the Apartment Complex above the O’Henry’s Coffee shop in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Carter told the council there should be an ordinance making it illegal to hang objects from a balcony.

He said this isn’t the first time Tuscaloosa has been exposed to what he believes is a racist act.

“I think the image we were shown and brought to out attention was disgusting. I think the act was despicable and we’re going to be reviewing our existing codes and see what we have in place for an ordinance” says District Tuscaloosa City Councilman Matt Calderone.

“I couldn’t believe that someone would do something so insensitive and right in the heart of Downtown” says Carter.

The exact intent of the display is still unknown.
