Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox began discussions about multifamily and student housing.

The idea is to figure what kind of toll they have on the Police Department, Fire Rescue and the roads.

City Leaders are also trying to figure out what sewer and water capacity large scale developments will have on the City.

They are also discussing if fees should be increased.

District 3 Tuscaloosa City Councilwoman Cynthia Almond said the main focus could be areas around the University Of Alabama.

“I think defining housing type is also an important type in the process because it may be a situation where we want to see affordable housing. We may not want to see student housing and right now under our code is more multifamily housing. So, we’re going to have an opportunity during this process to better define that will probably help the planning commission,” says Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.

Next Tuesday City Leaders will discuss the infrastructure in multifamily and student housing.
