TUSCALOOSA CITY COUNCIL APPROVES REDUCTION IN GARBAGE FEES
The Tuscaloosa City Council approved Mayor Walt Maddox’s recommendation to reduce the city’s residential garbage fees at a meeting Tuesday night.
The cost will go down by $18 a month, to $3.25 a month. The city’s proposal to waive or reduce the grocery tax failed in the legislature, so reducing the residential garbage fees and adding a one-cent sales tax increase would generate about $5 million annually.
The council will vote a second time next Tuesday.
