TUSCALOOSA – It’s called Mes de la Hispanics, also known as, Hispanic Heritage Month. A Tuscaloosa owned Hispanic business hosted its first ever block party celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The event took place at Las Pinas, a Hispanic owned ice cream business.

Co-owners of Las Pinas, Anna Jimenez and Christian Jimenez teamed up with local vendors for the event. The block party had inflatables for the kids, music for the adults, and food for everyone to enjoy.

Anna Jimenez said celebrating her culture is to her. “It’s really important for us to have this event because we really want other people to know about our culture,” said Jimenez, co-owner of Las Pinas.

Anna Jimenez says they plan on having more events like this all year long. The next block party will celebrate the Day of the Dead in November. The Day of the Dead is a celebratory holiday in honor of those who have died.
