Loosa Brews and Lagunitas Brewing Company partnered to host “Pups and Brews,” a fundraising event for the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, on Sept. 26.

The local bar pledged to donate a portion of the evening’s tap beer earnings to the shelter.

Metro Animal Shelter’s event coordinator, Becki Pate, said fundraising events are a vital part of the organization’s daily operation. Donations allow the shelter to purchase supplies, pay staff and provide top-notch care for the animals it rescues.

“Medical needs are our biggest expense at the shelter, and that’s where our extra money goes,” Pate said.

According to Pate, medical funds contribute to life-saving operations for rescue animals.

“In events like this, even every cent helps because it goes to help animals,” Pate said.

Many Tuscaloosa residents attended the event with their dogs to show support for local rescue animals. Pate spent the evening answering questions about the animal shelter and its needs. She said that she is optimistic about the funds raised by Loosa Brews.

And, the fun does not have to stop at Pups and Brews: Loosa Brews is a dog-friendly establishment. The bar’s policy states, “We’re friendly to dogs if the dog is friendly.” So, next time it’s time to kick back and enjoy a cold one, perhaps consider bringing Fido along for the fun.
