TUSCALOOSA ACCEPTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES IN LIEU OF CASH FOR PARKING TICKETS

Tuscaloosa is currently offering parking violators a cheaper, more helpful way to pay their tickets. The city will now be accepting $10 worth of school supplies as payment for $15 overtime parking tickets.

“This is a good way for you to pay your parking tickets and at the same time give back to your community, give back to a child in a way that you could never imagine,” Mayor Walt Maddox said. “This is a win-win for the city and a win-win for our children and our teachers who do a fantastic job throughout our community.”

The city will be accepting items such as index cards, pens, pencils, backpacks, flash drives and more. A list of how much each item will be worth toward paying off a ticket can be found here.

School supplies will be collected at municipal court on Sixth Street.

The program is only set to run through August, but Maddox said it could be extended if it is successful.
