TROY SUSPENDS NEW MEMBER ACTIVITIES FOR MOST FRATERNITIES
TROY, Ala. (AP) – Troy University has suspended new member activities for most of its fraternities because of hazing and other problems.
A memorandum from the school says university officials will meet with all members of eight men’s groups over the next two days and then decide whether to let operations resume.
The meetings will include a review of hazing policies.
The suspension involves traditionally white fraternities that are part of the National Interfraternity Council. It doesn’t affect traditionally black groups that are part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which has different procedures for taking in new members.
University officials have suspended two fraternities, Sigma Chi and Delta Kappa Epsilon, from campus because of allegations of hazing. Seven members of Sigma Chi were expelled in a case that media outlets report involve eight victims.
