Traffic frustrations give rise to more walking in Tuscaloosa

Graduation season is here, and just like every year, heavy traffic comes along with it.

Over the weekend, there were eight University of Alabama graduation ceremonies, all held at Coleman Coliseum. In all, students representing 33 countries, all 50 states and 66 counties in Alabama were part of the spring 2022 graduating class.

An employee of 30-plus years at the university said that on days like these she ditches her car and walks instead to avoid the insane traffic.

Joe Radest, who had two children graduating over the weekend, said he’s happy to be in Tuscaloosa and checking out everything the city has on offer.

“I’m just so excited to really spend this last weekend with the best friends that I’ve made over the past four years, and I’m excited to see what the world has in store for me,” said Megan Murphy.

Murphy is a part of the 2022 graduating class, and just like everyone else, she is making the choice to walk to the places she needs to be this weekend, rather than drive.
