The Tinsel Trail is back in Tuscaloosa, with more than 190 live Christmas trees sponsored and decorated by local businesses and organizations for a good cause.

The trail’s grand opening happens tonight at 5:30 at Government Plaza alongside Holidays on the Plaza, which made the move along with the Tinsel Trail from the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater to downtown Tuscaloosa this year.

Sunday afternoon, Tammy Tierce was singing along to Christmas music and decorating her organization’s canine-themed tree.

“We’ve been doing this for about four years,” Tierce said. “The first three years it was as Canine Compassion Fund and this year it’s for our business partner Compassion Pet Care.”

All trees were purchased by individuals or businesses to benefit Tuscaloosa’s One Place, a family resource charity organization.

“I think it’s a wonderful way to get the community out and reconnected and instill a new sense about the holiday spirit,” said Tierce.
