THE GAME BEFORE THE GAME: ALABAMA’S MANAGERS HAVE THEIR OWN BASKETBALL COMPETITION

Story by WVUA 23’s William Galloway.

The University of Alabama men’s basketball program has 14 managers who dedicate their time and effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the program. But these managers do more than just pass out Gatorade or wipe sweat off the floor during Crimson Tide games. Every now and then, they get to have a little fun the night before the game by competing against managers from other teams.

Their home games take place the night before the actual game in Alabama’s practice gym.

The managers from teams throughout the country compete against each other, and there is even a ranking system to establish who the best managers are. Alabama’s managers recently took down the top team in the land and received recognition from ESPN’s Jay Bilas for doing so.

The managers will continue to compete, hoping to secure a spot in the end-of-the-year tournament in Atlanta.
