Temperatures in Tuscaloosa have been colder than usual for this time of year. After giving out all the heaters they had, Temporary Emergency Services needs your help.

TES normally starts their heater program in early January, but with the recent cold weather they’ve already given out around 50 heaters and are getting calls every day from others asking for the devices.

“Part of being a good citizen is just having that warm heart,” said TES Executive Director Karen Thompson. “And if you’ve got that warm heart we want you to give something that’s warm.”

TES relies solely on donations from the community, and they’re asking for donations including blankets, coats, heaters, soup and everything else that can keep residents warm this winter.

“Think if 25 people are calling us every day,” Thompson said. “That’s a lot of individuals who are asking to be warm, and so we really need to think about the best way we can contribute during this season.”

If you want to donate a space heater, TES recommends bringing in a new one because there’s no way to ensure used devices are safe.

Items you’d like to donate can be brought to TES, 1705 15th Street in Tuscaloosa, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
