Temporary Emergency Services of Tuscaloosa County is sowing new seeds, but they need your help.

TES is looking for donations so they can maintain the 26th Street Community Garden through the fall and their new garden at the former Holt High School site. The new garden will be maintained by students enrolled in the county’s alternative school program.

Executive Director Karen Thompson said it’s important for students in alternative school to have an outlet for learning.

“This will uplift their spirits,” Thompson said. “And it will also help them channel their energy into something that’s positive. We need to start to show them other things that they can do, and hopefully there can be maybe some people that turn out to say, ‘I can make a career out of this’.”

The organization is looking for donations of gardening gloves, rakes, water hoses and at least two weed trimmers. If you’d like to donate, contact Temporary Emergency Services at 205-278-5535.
