TEEN TAKEN TO JUVENILE DETENTION AFTER ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTING 18-YEAR-OLD
A 17-year-old boy was taken to juvenile detention after authorities say he accidentally shot an 18-year-old girl.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department said it happened around 4 p.m. in the 600 block of Crescent Ridge Road East.
The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment after she was shot in the shoulder, but her wound is not life-threatening.
Homicide investigators said they learned the suspect, victim and several witnesses were hanging out around a vehicle when the 17-year-old pulled out a pistol. Witnesses said he was waving the gun around and showing it off when the pistol fired and hit the victim.
Investigators said that based on his reckless actions, the 17-year-old was charged with third-degree assault and was placed in juvenile detention.
Police said his name and mugshot are being withheld because of his age.
