BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Church officials say a teen missionary remains hospitalized in Birmingham after he was shot multiple times at a church event last week.

Michael Fauber is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Police say the 18-year-old was playing basketball at a weekly church event in southern Jefferson County when a visitor opened fire, hitting him multiple times.

AL.com reports that Jefferson county officials still have not identified a suspect and do not know whether the teen or the church were the targets of the attack. Fauber is from Ohio but has been serving in the Church’s mission in Birmingham.
