Mississippi Crime

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – A south Mississippi teenager has been sentenced to 35 years in prison following his conviction of second-degree murder in a 2016 slaying.

Police found 16-year-old Nigel Poole lying in the grass with two gunshot wounds to his face in January 2016.

The Sun Herald reports that 19-year-old Kobe Augustine was sentenced last week after a jury had convicted him of the charge in August.

At his sentencing hearing, Gulfport Detective Sgt. Christopher Werner testified that since Augustine has been in custody, he’s received 22 major rules violation reports at the Harrison County jail. They include multiple citations for threatening and assaulting other inmates and corrections officers.
