TUSCALOOSA COUNTY – Each year the Freedom Flag Foundation selects one school from each state to host a piece of steel from the former World Trade Center.
This year, Taylorville Primary School was selected as the 2022-2023 host for the National Freedom Flag and World Trade Center Steel Educational Project.
The Freedom Flag was created shortly after the attacks and represents the thousands of people who died and helped in the recovery efforts in the wake of 9/11.
A piece of steel from Tower 1 of the World Trade Center is part of a display. Lesson plans which focus on the importance of 9/11 have already arrived at the school. School administrators hope this project will teach the younger generations about the events on Sept. 11, 2001.
