TUSCALOOSA – Authorities are searching for a suspect they believe beat a man who impaled himself on a fence with a baseball bat.

The assault happened around 10 p.m. Monday at University Village Apartments. Investigators say 27-year-old Marshall Davenport was fighting with the 29-year-old victim when Davenport retrieved a bat and chased the victim to a pool fence. Witnesses told investigators the victim attempted to jump the fence, failed, and impaled himself on it. Witnesses said Davenport then began to beat the impaled victim with the bat.

The victim sustained abrasions to his lower abdomen and a puncture wound as well. He was transported to DCH Regional Medical center for treatment.

Davenport fled the scene before police arrived. Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest and are actively seeking Davenport. He’s charged with Assault 2nd. There were multiple witnesses to the assault and investigators want to speak with all of them.
