Supplies for tickets on tonight’s Tuscaloosa City Council agenda

School Supplies Cropped

Imagine clearing your parking tickets with pencils and paper.

The Tuscaloosa City Council could reinstate its School Supplies for Parking Tickets Program when the measure comes up for voting at tonight’s meeting.

On page 12 of the meeting’s agenda, the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education is authorized to accept school supplies as payment for overtime parking citations by Alabama Code Section 16-13-36.

If approved, the program will begin on August 1 and end at the end of the month.

Donated school supplies valued at $10 or more will be good for redeeming one $15 parking ticket.

Redemption is accrued with each $10 donation, so that $20 worth of supplies clears two parking tickets, and so it goes.

City officials will determine which supplies they will accept and publish a list.

The council has voted this measure into action before, along with donating Christmas gifts to children in need.

Supplies will be doled out by the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education.
