TUSCALOOSA – West Alabama AIDS Outreach’s annual Sunset River Dos took place Thursday, embracing a fiesta themed fundraiser at the Tuscaloosa River Market.

This year’s focus highlighted services WAAO offers to the Hispanic community. The fun included a silent auction, live music, and food catered by Chuey’s to fit the theme.

All the proceeds from the tickets sold at the door and the silent auction go towards WAAO’s Latino services.

Executive Director Billy Kirkpatrick, said right now WAAO’s main focus is to save lives.

“For varied reasons that population resists coming in to care for a lot of fears they may have,” Kirkpatrick explained. “And, some cultural issues. But, we want to make sure we are reaching out as effectively as we can to make sure those people feel safe coming to get tested, know their status. And, if they’re positive, get them the care”.
