COFFEEVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A boat sunk in a lock on the Tombigbee River in southwest Alabama, temporarily blocking the passage until crews can remove it.

WKRG-TV reports that Coffeeville Lock and Dam has been closed since the mishap on Saturday. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hopes to have it operating again by the weekend.

Lock supervisor Robert Cox says a 41-foot boat that left Dauphin Island headed north with one person aboard went down.

The lock is located about 90 miles north of Mobile Bay but south of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, which links the Tennessee River with the Tombigbee through Alabama and Mississippi.
