Sun Valley Shooting Leaves One Man Dead, One Facing Murder Charges

One man is dead and another is facing capital murder charges after a shooting at Sun Valley Apartments on Aug. 29.
Tuscaloosa Police said it happened around 2 p.m. at the apartment complex located in the 5100 block of 36th Avenue East.
The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Justin Lanier Douglas.
Devonte Montel Hinton, 25, was charged with capital murder and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
“There is no secret that the number of shootings have gone up in Tuscaloosa, and we are tired of it,” said Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley.
In the wake of the shooting, two other men were taken into custody and a second unidentified man was treated for non life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are possible.
