SUMTER COUNTY SHOOTING LEAVES TWO INJURED
Sumter County authorities are searching for at least two suspects involved in a shooting on Saturday, that left two men in the hospital with serious injuries.
The shooting happened just before 6:00 PM Saturday evening on County Road 83 in the small town of Panola in Sumter County. An annual festival event called “Panola Day” had been taking place nearby the field where the shooting occurred. Law enforcement tell us they are unsure of a shooting motive. The Panola Day festivities brought hundreds of people to the area, so they know there are witnesses to this crime.
Both victims are black males. One is 22-years-old from Pickens County, the other is 33-years-old from Tuscaloosa County. They are both recovering from serious injuries at DCH in Tuscaloosa.
Authorities do not believe the shootings were planned. They’ve recovered two separate weapons they believe were shot by two different people. Police do have one person they are looking at as a suspect, but need witness accounts to move forward with investigating this individual. If you have any information on the shooting that took place Saturday, October 18th in Panola, you are encouraged to call the anonymous tip line at (205) 652-7984.
