Homecoming week at the University of Alabama is in full swing and students are getting out their paint and brushes to Paint the Town Red.

Paint the Town Red is an event that lets student organizations paint local business windows and storefronts in the Tuscaloosa community as a way to involve the city in homecoming activities.

UA Student Government Association Director of Paint the Town Red Caleb Thome said it’s always a great collaborative effort.

“I think it’s a great way for student organizations to get the community in the homecoming spirit by letting them paint windows and storefronts and just the businesses that we in Tuscaloosa hold so dear to our hearts,” he said.

Many students including Elizabeth Sage said they’re excited about sharing their school spirit with businesses around town.

“It’s just a really fun thing to do,” Sage said. “I’m an art minor, I love art, and I’ve recruited a lot of people in our organization who also have the same interest as me like, ‘let’s go paint windows for fun.’ I’m really excited to see it come together.”

If you’re interested in seeing students’ work, the window art can be seen all around Tuscaloosa, but the most prominent spots are on the Strip just off the UA campus and in downtown Tuscaloosa.
