STUDENTS, ADULTS PARTICIPATE IN WALK@SCHOOL EVENT

Walk At School Day

Yesterday was Alabama Walk@School Day, a day dedicated to getting kids up and moving across the state.

About 22,000 students, teachers and parents participated statewide. Buhl Elementary School students walked during their scheduled physical education time for 40 minutes.

“We know that a healthy child is a happy child and a better learner,” Nita McAllister, a physical education teacher at Buhl, said. “So our goal is to help educate them of the importance of staying active and eating nutritionally.”

Nationwide, more than 25,000 participants are expected to join in this year.
