Stillman showcases Black businesses with shopping event
Stillman College opened its campus to the community Friday, offering one-stop-shopping for customers interested in supporting Black-owned businesses.
The Black Wall Street shopping event gave Stillman students, alumni and the community a chance to showcase their products and entrepreneurial spirit.
Vendors were selling items like jewelry, clothing, beverages and food.
Event organizer Oniska Blevins said when Black-owned businesses thrive, it’s good for the whole community.
“If they are pouring money in Black-owned businesses they are pouring money into the Black community and that is very important, especially on in West Tuscaloosa where we need that positive representation,” Blevins said. “We need to see people who look like us doing positive things.”
Organizers are hoping to have this event again later this year or in February.
