STAY SAFE WHEN THE WEATHER TAKES A TURN FOR THE WORSE
While severe weather is a hot topic in Alabama, here’s a refresher course on staying safe in a serious storm.
If you live in a home or apartment building, move to the lowest level in the structure and stay away from windows and doors. Keep all windows and doors closed. If possible, put on a bike helmet, cover yourself with a mattress or heavy blankets, and get under a table.
If you live in a mobile home or are outdoors, make your way to a sturdy structure or a designated storm shelter. If you are in a vehicle, find a safer structure as soon as possible. Taking shelter under a bridge or overpass while in a vehicle is not advised.
According to the Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency, flying debris poses the most danger during severe weather.
