SPEAKER HUBBARD HEADS TO TRIAL TUESDAY

By Jack Royer

Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard will appear in court facing 23 ethics violations on Tuesday. The trial in Lee County comes months after he was indicted in October 2014.

Hubbard’s defense attorney is Bill Baxley, longtime attorney general and lieutenant governor. The prosecutor in the case is Assistant Attorney General Mike Hart, who prosecuted Don Siegelman a decade ago.

The case begins Tuesday, May 24 in Lee County. If convicted on any of the 23 counts that have been brought against him, Hubbard would be immediately removed from the Alabama House of Representatives.
