Spades owner speaks out after parking lot shooting
By WVUA 23 News Reporter Jeremiah Hatcher
The owner of Spades Restaurant and Lounge in Tuscaloosa said a parking lot shooting over the weekend was an isolated incident, and the perpetrators don’t represent what his establishment is looking for in its patrons.
Tuscaloosa Police were called to the restaurant, located on Culver Road in West Tuscaloosa, just before 2 a.m. Sunday when witnesses reported gunshots in the area.
Investigators found eight cars with bullet holes and shattered glass throughout the area, and TPD briefly closed the intersection of Culver Road and U.S. Highway 11.
No arrests have been made, but TPD is searching for those involved.
“It was a very unfortunate situation,” said Spades owner Leonard Jones. “We would like to apologize to all our customers who were here and anyone whose car was affected during this time.”
Jones said the situation was between two people who got into a fight in the parking lot.
“We asked them to remove themselves from the premises, but it ended in a gun fight,” Jones said.
Spades is doing its best to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again, he said.
“We want everyone to know that this is a safe establishment where you can come and enjoy yourself,” Jones said. “You can get something to eat, have a drink, enjoy hookah. We’re putting different ideas together to make our place is enjoyable for all.”
Spades Restaurant and Lounge is located at 1735 Culver Road, Tuscaloosa.
