SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE DISCUSSES THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT IN WEEKEND SUMMIT
The discussion continues on the sanctity of the voting rights act as the Alabama State Convention and Regional Voting Rights Summit came to Tuscaloosa October 29th-31st.
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference says, “We’ve come too far to turn back now,” and they want to make sure everyone has the ability to vote, no matter who you are.
State President of the SCLC, Rev. Dr. Schmitt Moore, says he’s afraid the federal government will give back the voting rights procedure to the States.
“That’s what was wrong with voting, states did what they wanted to do, the federal government had to come in and mandate that we do it this way and so what the federal government is saying now, we trust the states to do the right thing.”
