SHUTDOWN MEANS SPRUCING UP AT USS ALABAMA, ADJOINING PARK
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) – An unexpected shutdown means the USS Alabama and Battleship Memorial Park are getting a spring cleaning in Mobile.
About 50 people work at the park, which is full of old airplanes, a submarine and other exhibits beside the Alabama.
So employees will be cleaning and refurbishing exhibits while the attraction along Mobile Bay is shut down to eliminate crowds and slow the spread of the new coronavirus.
The park hasn’t been closed since winds from Hurricane Katrina caused the World War II battleship to list and left other damage in 2005.
It’s unclear when the park might reopen.
