SHERIFF: TUSCALOOSA COUNTY JAIL ENSURING CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK DOES NOT SPREAD AMONG INMATES

Tuscaloosa County Jail

If you think a cruise ship is a dangerous place to be during a pandemic, consider America’s jails and prisons.

As this new virus spreads, Sheriff Ron Abernathy said the Tuscaloosa County Jail is taking extra precautions so the coronavirus doesn’t infect any inmates.

“When you come in booking we have a screening process in place for that,” Abernathy said. “We’re taking temperatures, we’re asking questions in regards to the potential virus. Our staff is equipped with masks, glasses and gloves to ensure the safety of themselves and the inmates.”

Abernathy said they’ve also implemented additional cleaning services within the jail, and have increased evaluations from 14 times a day to 21.
