SEWER OVERFLOW RESULTS IN CANCELLED CLASSES AT COLLINS-RIVERSIDE

By WVUA 23 Web Coordinator Alejandra Tenorio

Students at Collins-Riverside Middle School got to enjoy an extra day off school this President’s Day weekend when an issue with the sanitary sewer system caused the school to cancel classes for the day while issues were repaired.

Roy Bishop, a Beacon Janitorial employee was on site fixing the issue as the school plans to re-open campus and commence classes tomorrow, Feb. 21.

“They need to do a little more heavy cleaning on the kitchen areas and stuff,” Bishop said.

In other sewer-related news, less than 500 gallons of sanitary sewer overflowed on the 1300 block of University Boulevard and Gene Stallings Avenue. The overflow reached the storm drains by the Black Warrior River.

Officials said the overflow does not impact tap water and the affected streets have been washed and vacuumed.
