Severe weather expected in West Alabama this afternoon

Good Tuesday afternoon! As of 12:30 p.m., all is quiet across West and Central Alabama. A new update from the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Mississippi in a moderate risk, Level 4 out of 5. The moderate risk includes a small portion of West Alabama near the state line. Most of West Alabama is in an enhanced risk, Level 3 out of 5. The risk is lower in East Alabama, but not zero.

All types of severe weather will be possible, including a few tornadoes, damaging winds and flash flooding. Some storms could produce hail. A tornado or two could be strong, long-tracking over West Alabama.

The severe risk could begin as early as 2 or 3 p.m. in West Alabama, then the risk will expand east after sunset. The severe risk will be over for West Alabama by 11 p.m., then areas east of I-65 by 2 a.m.

Storms could drop 2 to 3 inches of rain, which could cause flash flooding. If you live in a typical flood spot, use caution!
