SECRETARY OF STATE URGES STUDENTS TO VOTE

By Arielle Lipan, WVUA 23 Staff

Juniors and seniors at Paul W. Bryant high school hosted Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill Nov. 4, and he urged them to exercise their voting rights.

Merrill said he wants to make sure everyone knows their options, whether it’s being a registered voter, running for office, or influencing the process some other way.

“The important message we want to share,” he said, “is that every Alabamian that is eligible to vote needs to be registered to vote and needs to have a qualified issued government ID so they can participate in the electoral process.”

Alabama offers free photo voter ID cards to registered voters. They can apply for a card at alabamavotes.gov.

Students who are voting age could register to vote at the event.

The next statewide vote is March 1 for the Primaries. The voter registration deadline is Feb. 16.
