Second Greene County teacher dies of COVID-19

Greene County Schools faculty, staff and students are in mourning after the system lost its second teacher to COVID-19.
Superintendent Corey Jones said this is a tragic loss for the school system.
“It’s tragic whenever you lose an employee, especially young employees with so much to offer, who are beloved members of your community and your school district,” Jones said. “We are grieving and we will get through this as a family, together.”
Jones did not name either teacher out of respect for their families.
The system has been hosting classes virtually for the past few weeks, but in-person instruction will resume Sept. 21.
“We are looking at the data and looking at where we are on our 14-day positivity rate for Greene County,” Jones said. “We are seeing an improvement. The district, especially our teachers, were so excited to have our students back. We are excited to have them back in September and we plan to have face-to-face instruction.”
Jones said he encourages anyone eligible for the vaccine to get one as soon as possible so transmission goes down and normalcy can resume.
